Finding and Feeling Love

March 23, 2022

“I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me. I wanna feel what love is. I want you to show me.” These lines from a song resonate with all of us in some manner because we always seek love, acknowledgment, and comfort from people or things that this world could offer.

Our world has changed a lot and so has the concept of love. We have various ways to show and communicate with our loved ones even from another side of the continent. There are also numerous dating apps and websites to choose from. And there is self-love. It is something that we want to practice and achieve in this life full of twists, turns, and heartaches.

On the other hand, there are people who think that everything has a price tag. They believe that accumulating wealth, money, fame, and possessions will enable them to buy happiness and love in a blink of an eye.

I will dig deeper on this later but what’s my personal take on love? I, on the other hand, have experienced and been shown love by my family and friends but it was not that easy to acknowledge that kind of love when you are drowning by your mental issues — traumas and fighting your inner demons.

When you are struggling, your healing process looks like taking one step ahead and two steps backward and it was never meant to be linear but it matters who you are with, and the thing you tried to do in between the process.

As for me, I found love and solace from hiking mountains. Mountain teaches me that there is always gentleness from this world we call home. It also makes me small in a good way because it makes me feel like I am part of a bigger picture, something bigger than myself.

That sense of being in a community and belongingness to the earth grounded me, which I have usually overlooked and failed to recognize.

So how does it relate to finding and feeling the love? Nature has its own way of showing that we matter, no matter how small we are. It gives you that intrinsic purpose to protect and preserve it.

But, what is happening right now in the environment? Our nature is suffocating and slowly dying because of our greed.

Big corporations think that everyone has a tag price. They keep on extracting fossil fuels and exploiting our environment and the community that depends on it. They also bombed us with “eco and alternative products to show the least that they care.

In reality, there is no way we can benefit from destroying and polluting the very nature that sustains us, especially now that we only have a small window of opportunity left in reversing the threats of the climate crisis.

We can no longer go back to business as usual, the system that brought us where we are now.  Is this how we express our love and appreciation for our common home?

We go beyond and do incredible things for our loved ones even to those people who never see our worth, and we should do the same for our common home. And I feel that it is more than important to personify and to fall in love with nature again.

If you are still looking for love and connection as the song says, all you have to do is open up and immerse yourself with nature. Believe me, you will find it. And I hope that when you find it, hold it close, and use it as fuel to protect our common home.

Embrace the love that comes from nature and give it back by voicing our concerns and taking action. Don’t let this found appreciation fade away and make our nature “the one that got away”.

After all, we depend on and coexist with nature. We are part of nature.
