Today is the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

In the Gospel, Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:25-30

From the very beginning, Jesus has been with us, the greatest love revealed to us as children of the Father. In this period of many trials and tribulations, the whole of creation offers us answers and solutions, waiting to be discovered.

We are all called to listen, to open wide our eyes and to reach out. Let us allow the Spirit of Truth to guide us, to stand for what is good and what is right. 

When human life is at stake and human dignity trampled; when integrity of creation is abused and exploited by the few; when there is culture of fear and violence; and love redefined to gain power and domination. 

Pope Francis, in his encyclical letter Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, number 105, reminds us: 

“In this sense, we stand naked and exposed in the face of our ever-increasing power, lacking the wherewithal to control it. Our freedom fades when it is handed over to the blind forces of the unconscious, of immediate needs, of self-interest, and of violence.”

Further, Laudato Si’ number 158 says:

“In the present condition of global society, where injustices abound and growing numbers of people are deprived of basic human rights and considered expendable,  the principle of the common good immediately becomes, logically and inevitably, a summons to solidarity and a preferential option for the poorest of our brothers and sisters.”
