#LaudatoSiSunday: Christ the King

November 26, 2023

Peace be with you! A blessed #LaudatoSiSunday everyone. Today is the Solemnity of Christ the King. In the Gospel, Jesus is telling us about a king saying: “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.”

The kingdom of God in this mortal world reigns in genuine service and compassion. In responding to and taking action on the cries of the earth and the poor, the hungry and thirsty, the most needy and strangers, we all share our part in our kingly mission.

A king is indeed a shepherd, tending to his sheep so that no one is injured and lost. We are all called not only to be in the flock but also to be shepherds when our sisters and brothers are left behind, abused, and persecuted; when the voiceless ecosystems are exploited and destroyed. We shall stand strong as our Great Shepherd does not leave us.

And so altogether, like Saint Francis of Assisi, let us give praise to our King and Good Shepherd, the firstborn of all creation, by being kind and loving to our fellow creatures.

Laudato si, O mi Signore!

Sisters and brothers, let us continue protecting all life, as Pope Francis prays in his encyclical Laudato si’, number 246, to prepare for a better future, for the coming of God’s kingdom of justice, peace, love, and beauty.
