The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines issued a pastoral letter calling for unity and action to address our biggest challenge yet - climate emergency and planetary crisis.
Church leaders described it as “a pro-people and pro-environment act" of the province
The group called on the concerned agencies to postpone the talks and “respect the collective decision-making process” of the indigenous communities.
MWSS has repeatedly reasoned that the construction of the Kaliwa Dam will increase Metro Manila’s water supply and will reduce the capital’s dependence on the Angat Dam Reservoir.
The prelate also urged voters to support candidates who are “credible and honest,” adding that there are candidates who are “untruthful.”
Several groups claimed that the signatories to the agreement were “pre-selected” and a significant number of indigenous communities were not consulted and excluded from the negotiations.
The climate crisis, the degradation of our environment, and the plight of vulnerable communities should become front and center issues as we head towards the national elections in May 2022.
The groups urged candidates to include the declaration of climate emergency in their agendas, adding that they want “a vision of transformative actions” to avoid the tragedies millions of Filipinos endured and suffered from typhoons, droughts, and other climate-related hazards.
